Publisher's Synopsis
Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography allows the intracranial circulation to be examined noninvasively and has been used in patients with cerebrovascular disease when angiography has been considered unnecessary or dangerous. The ability to continuously monitor changes within the cerebral circulation has led to the many new research avenues that are discussed in this book. Chapters reviewing the physiological basis for TCD and basic TCD techniques are also included so that those practitioners who are unfamiliar with TCD can gain the necessary knowledge to understand the applications described in the second half of the text. Although the most recent information, research results, and applications are presented in each chapter, every effort has been made to stress clinical relevance and to view results from a practical perspective. Providing the most comprehensive overview of the spectrum of TCD capabilities, this book will appeal both to clinicians involved in research and those involved in patient care.
