Excerpt from Transactions of the Alabama Historical Society, Vol. 2: 1897-1898
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said corporation may take and hold real and personal property to the value of ten thousand dollars, may make a constitution and by-laws for the government thereof not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of this State, may sue and be sued, and do all other acts and things consistent with the object of the said corporation which any other corporation may or can do; but shall not exer cise banking privileges or emit notes, bonds or bills to circulate as money.
