Justifiable as this attitude may be, it must be remembered, however, that the failure of the deductive argument to offer complete proof does not by any means excuse us from further inquiry into the nature of the causes that produce such uni formity as is actually known to exist. We shall not be content permanently to regard this uniformity as a plain miracle.
