The Council in presenting their report have great pleasure in referring to what they consider has been a most important phase in the history of the Institute, namely, the acquisition of a Royal Charter; this they consider has not only placed the affairs of the Institute on a more secure basis, but has greatly added to its prestige, and given it a more important position among the other scientific societies of the kingdom.
