This study traces the history of the Confederate pension system in Virginia, exploring all relevant state laws that have had an impact on Confederate servicemen and their families. Another of the main goals was the development of information on all Confederate veterans and their widows who have recieved Virgina pension payments. The text displays some of the ways in which the war continued to resonate in the USA.;This study will interest historians, policy-analysts examining state-benefit programmes, genealogists, individuals interested in the Civil war and state and Federal-level decision-makers examining the strengths and weaknesses of state-designed, -administered and -implemented social programs.
