Publisher's Synopsis
This new edition still focuses on presenting the core tools used to facilitate and record continuing professional development (CPD). The chapters have been refreshed with new evidence and revised and updated where necessary. There are also new chapters which capture the increased sophistication of the processes used to facilitate CPD and they reflect the complex working environments that healthcare practitioners negotiate in the 21st century. The first section covers tools that provide a method of facilitating professional development and a means of recording it. The second section has a focus on process and covers the how and the why of CPD.
This book is primarily written for allied health professions (AHPs) who are regulated by the Health Professions Council (HPC). Many of the methods and processes will have a wider application and will be useful for all healthcare professionals from students to expert practitioners. There are two key drivers making engagement with CPD an essential activity and not a luxury. The first is the HPC audit of CPD and any practitioner registered with the HPC can be selected. The last chapter gives a first-hand account of this experience. The second driver is a health and social care context where more services must be provided with less resources. CPD might seem like a luxury, but actually it becomes more essential to ensure that the highest quality, evidenced healthcare is provided. This book will prove invaluable for students and qualified practitioners.
