Alabama 1937- Twelve year old Sarah Jane only wants two things. She longs to know her dead father and to escape the pain of her mother's sharp switch and equally sharp tongue. In the woods by the river she finds solace among the songbirds and rushing water. Here, she also finds an unexpected friend.
