These are the papers from the fifth International Symposium on thromboembolic diseases held at Cannes in June 1998. These included three workshops on thromboprophylaxis in non-surgical patients; home therapy with heparins, and which end-points to use in clinical trials of venous thromboembolism.;The special case of thrombosis in pregnant women was considered and the need for large scale prospective randomized studies, to evaluate low-molecular-weight heparin in the prevention and treatment of thrombosis during pregnancy, was highlighted.
