THREE MINIATURES was written to fill a need for short, playable saxophone ensembles offering the chance to play music of varied style and tempi to the young artist. The lyrical Air provides opportunities to focus on tone, phrasing and musicality. The second movement is a very traditional Minuet which offers greater challenges to ensemble playing. The last movement, Jig, is the most technically challenging of the three. Together, these three short pieces provide a complete musical work which can be performed by several arrangements of saxophone quartet, ranging from four altos to two altos, one tenor and one baritone.
