Publisher's Synopsis
It is 1856. Cornish schoolteacher Talwyn is grief-stricken when her father's body is discovered on the rocks at the foot of cliffs near their home. But his death was no accident. He was murdered. And Talwyn's father is not the only murder victim - there have been two other unsolved killings in recent months. Local magistrate Sir Joseph Sawle is convinced that the killings are connected. When Sir Joseph asks for assistance from London's Scotland Yard, Cornish-born detective Amos Hawke is sent to investigate. Amos's relationship with Tawlyn gets off to a disastrous start but as he works hard to break through the veil of fear and silence in order to bring her father's killer to justice, Talwyn's help becomes indispensable.
