As secretary of the Joint Committee on the Status of the National Archives, comprised of representatives of the Ameri can Historical Association, the Organization oi American Historians, and the Society of American Archivists, the director wrote and Atheneum published The Records of a Nation. Publication was announced at a luncheon given in his honor at the Century Club, New York City, in December, 1968. His previous book, For History's Sake, won an Award of Merit given by the American Association for State and Local History in 1968.
