Almshouse salaries average about per annum for the cities, and about $470 for the towns. The greatest length of service in any one place is that of Waltham, where the warden and matron have served twenty-seven years at Concord, Lexing ton and Somerset there has been a like service of twenty-five years; at Lee and Pittsfield, of twenty-four years; at Haverhill, of twenty-two years; at Hingham, of nineteen years; at Cohasset.
