Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Third Annual Report of the Officers of the Chicago Reform School to the Board of Guardians: For the Year Ending September 30th, 1858
The introduction of water from the Lake rendered another addition to the first building necessary. This addition gave us a bath room, with a capacious bath tank and apparatus, where twenty-five boys can wash their hands m a pure running stream, at the same time. It gave us also an enlargement to our old kitchen of double its former dimensions. Upstairs it gave us an ironing room and recitation room. All these rooms have been appropriately fitted up with shelves and benches. We have also made material alterations in the appearance of the front yard, fitting it up with gravel walks, and changing the low grounds, from being the most unsightly, into the most attrae tive portions of the yard.
