Thinking About Personal and Social Education in Primary Schools

Primary schools have always been concerned with the personal and moral development and welfare of their pupils. This has flowed from the general caring ethos of schools, and the relationships built up by individual class teachers.;Recent developments have encouraged more deliberate policies. These include: the awareness of the need to prepare for secondary school transfer; co-operative group work and decision making; the need to prepare thoroughly for a multi-racial society; the potential problems of child abuse and drug abuse.;These changes suggest that primary and middle schools will need to look carefully at the personal, social and moral needs of their pupils.;"Thinking About..." is planned to help do this. It gives coverage of current thinking in the area; it provides general guidance, and specific examples of individual schools' experiences.;The book is aimed at primary and middle school teachers.
