Publisher's Synopsis

In the early 1960's Neville and Dot Winger moved their family of 4 children to a remote Bay on Great Barrier Island, 50 miles across the Hauraki Gulf from Auckland, New Zealand. This was the beginning of the Orama Christian Community, which is still active today. The community focused on giving respite and rehabilitation opportunities to those in need, often caring for people with addictions and other difficulties. Orama ran family holiday camps over the summer period and also developed training schools for those that wanted to learn more about Christian discipleship, as it was known in the late 20th Century.
There were numerous projects initiated and adventures had on this remote patch of beach and bush which impacted 100's of volunteers, residents and visitors over the years. Many of these folks now live in remote corners of the globe having received training in the Christian walk and ministry.
This book tells the story of the early years at Orama up until the premature death of founder Neville Winger in 1981.
