Publisher's Synopsis
The third of four catalogues of theses and dissertations in the field of Germanic studies (excluding English) approved for higher degrees in the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland, this volume covers the period between 1967 and 1972. The trend towards German literature of the twentieth century in the choice of thesis subjects noted in the previous volume, has continued in the period now under review, with 65 out of 148 titles listed falling into this category. It is perhaps interesting to note that the classical period seems to be the one which is least in favour: only one deals specifically with the work of Goethe, one with the work of Schiller, and none at all with either Lessing or Herder. Theses and dissertations are listed alphabetically by author, and the catalogue has a preface and subject index.
