Excerpt from Thermal Expansion of Alpha and of Beta Brass Between 0 and 600� C, in Relation to the Mechanical Properties of Heterogeneous Brasses of the Muntz Metal Type
The samples for the measurements were cast in chill molds, heat treated in order to produce a homogeneous, stress-free alloy, then machined and tested.
The specimens 259 and 261 were made of pure electrolytic copper and Horsehead zinc; the others were made of some re melted copper, together with Horsehead zinc and Straits tin. These samples, unfortunately, contained some lead and iron. The chemical analyses of the samples are given in Table 1.
