Publisher's Synopsis
In an attempt to give some order to her recollections and some sense to her whole life, the protagonist narrates a story that emerges from the idealized world of her childhood, the almost mythical world just before the outbreak of the Second World War, a world that would soon disintegrate in a personal and general catastrophe. Yet beyond the collapse of the world she has known, the story leads to the personal growth and maturity of the adolescent protagonist. This coincides with the rebirth of the world around her, a post-war period full of enthusiasm, determination and hope, which for her will ultimately result in another loss through an unwelcomed migration to Canada. The result is a large canvas of that historical period with all its values and milieu. The narration is driven by the impulses and whims of memories and life's vagaries, creating a variegated mosaic of the protagonist's existence, made up of losses, recoveries and joys along the road that leads to a serene inner poise for those who manage to reach the finish line.
