In short, this book portrays a boy's decision to accomplish his goal. Whether it requires bloodshed or simply making people disappear, all depends on how much closer he gets to acquiring this goal; however, he is not a psychopath. The boy's goal is essentially trying to figure it out what his goal is. He was given a request by his mother to protect the children, Mizuzu and Edward, but even if it was his beloved mother, he still feels conflicted about protecting the two.
