Publisher's Synopsis
The International Association of Universities was formally established in 1950, with the purpose of encouraging and giving institutional form to the already existing links between universities and colleges throughout the world. The original initiative came from UNESCO, in the form of a preparatory universities' conference in 1948 and the IAU has developed and maintained close relations with that organisation. Membership of the IAU is open to all degree-conferring institutions at the level of higher education and associate membership has been granted to a number of regional and international university bodies, giving the IAU a firm footing in the different regions and cultural communities of the world.;This is the 22nd edition of a biennial publication providing key information on higher educational institutions worldwide. Produced in conjunction with the International Association of Universities, this ensures that all 11,200 institutions are recognised by major national educational bodies. The directory gives contact information for higher education institutions (including universities), as well as basic structures for each. Entries include World Wide Web addresses, where available, and e-mail addresses for institutions and individuals.
