Not possessing a scientific knowledge of the sublime art of sculpture, I have not attempted a critical analysis, or technical examination of these marbles; but have aimed at no other object than that of merely describing the effects which they pro duced on myself, with the pleasing hope of ex citing in others the same sensations of admiration and delight. I am, however, aware of the risk which I incur of displeasing the amateur, by passing over many things which in a regular criticism.
