Sappho in Leucadia, in shorter form, was first pub lished in London, four years ago. In the same year Ains lee's Magazine printed certain parts of the play dealing with Sappho's love for Phaon. Portions of The Passing of Aphrodite appeared in the Atlantic Monthly under the title of Hephmstus. Likewise some of the shorter poems in this book have been printed in periodicals, and I am indebted to the editors of the following magazines for permission to reissue such verses: The Canadian, The Oxford, The Bookman, The Century, The Smart Set, The American, The Reader, Ainslee's, Mcclure's, Every body's and Harper's.
