Publisher's Synopsis
Five hundred years after a great civil war that pitted the Magi, demi-gods of great power, against the First and Second Born, their human-Magi offspring, civilization has crumbled into warring city-states and barbarism, and the Magi are dead or in hiding. Far to the north, the demon Asmodeth falls through the void between realities to crash to earth. Found by the assassin and follower of the Old Ways, Tancril, Asmodeth possesses the body of the Duke of Karn and begins his bloody conquest of the Three Valleys. But Asmodeth has hidden agenda: enslave or kill the remaining Magi. Meanwhile, in a peaceful valley hidden from the world, Old Man Burgess is slowly realizing that something is wrong. An enigma, the old man cannot remember his past. His memories and powers are slowly being awakened by Asmodeth's attempted intrusions into the peaceful valley. Could he be the Wanderer, greatest and most enigmatic of the vanished Magi? Culminating in fire, war and fury, Burgess' true nature is awoken as Asmodeth's legions conquer the Three Valleys, and the demon sets his eyes on the hidden valley, the Oasis, and the lowlands that lie beyond.
