Each river selected provides an important example of natural river variability as well as the various geologic, sedimentologic, tectonic, and human control that influence river stability. The book is divided into the following six parts: variability and complexity; geologic controls on variability; sedimentologic controls on variability; variability in space and time; human impacts on variability; and problems and plans.
