Publisher's Synopsis
This unsettling ghost story follows the life of a damaged child who inherits a strange little house from a grandmother she never knew. The child's mother, lost in alcohol and dark family secrets, is determined to turn the situation to her own advantage, and her new lover has his own unsavoury desires. Amid social isolation and the ever-present fear of insanity, the child seeks sanctuary in an old church. And then suddenly, there is Lydia - cool, detached and rather odd, she seems to be the perfect ally, until a series of sudden, violent events raise the question of who - or what - Lydia really is.
