Publisher's Synopsis
James Gibbons Huneker (1857-1921) was an influential journalist and writer about music. His monograph on Chopin is still generally known by musicians. But Huneker also wrote colorful and entertaining fiction about musicians centered on his insights into specific musical works. The stories in this edition were selected from among all of his short writings, including articles published in magazines, as well as a few autobiographical stories that reveal his story-telling instinct. Each story has an introduction and commentary. Where specific musical works are referenced in the story there is commentary on its "playlist."
