Bookseller Notes
Scarce first edition of this devotional treatise. The author was 'Minister of the Gospel at Lasswade', just to the south of Edinburgh. The work is dedicated to three local grandees, including the owner of the barony of Lasswade, 'Sir John Clark of Pennycook'. Sir John was an ardent Calvinist, and one can quite see how these dense and learned sermons would have appealed to him. The printer James M'Euen's business was continued by his apprentice Alexander Kincaid, who was in turn succeeded by his own apprentice William Creech.
