Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Story of the 1st Battalion Cape Corps: 1915-1919
Mr. Rhodes, as Mr. Morrison reminds us, went a step further in the same direction when he organized a force of what are known as Cape Boys to fight, Rhodesian battles in Mashonaland. Excellent service they rendered and a good character they earned for courage and discipline on that occasion. Prejudice, however, stood in the way of following the example of the French in raising a non-european Force either for police or for military service.
The present volume is a worthy record of another experiment in the same direction, and it deserves careful study by all those who are interested in the future of South Africa.
