Publisher's Synopsis
The discovery in the 1970s of a number of boxes containing early glass plate negatives of Montgomery provided the impetus for this long overdue work. These plates formed the nucleus of the large collection of local pictures now housed in the Old Bell Museum, and many of them, together with the authors' personal collection of photographs and other material, have been used in its production. In seventeen chapters the authors tell the story of the town and its immediate locality, a story richly illustrated both with photographs and documents from the sources mentioned above, frequently giving amusing details of life in the old county town.
