Many drawings have been made from makers' prints and advertising literature; the majority, perhaps, have been redrawn from engineering periodicals, usually with the selection of only the part desired; a few have been copied from other books, notably Leist's Steuerungen [iir Dampi maschinen and Stodola's Steam Turbines, Third Edition (ger man); while half a dozen line-drawings from catalogues have been transferred directly. As to periodicals. Engineering, Power, The Amer-wan Engineer and Railroad Journal and Marine Engineering have been freely drawn upon for material.
