Elijah was one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament. So much so, that when God concluded the Old Testament, He mentioned Elijah in the same context as Moses. God declared that He would send Elijah before the coming of the Lord, in addition to remembering Moses. This prophetic word of Elijah coming before the Lord was fulfilled in John, the Baptist. That is John, the Baptist represented the Elijah that was to come and prepare the way for Jesus', before Jesus' first coming.
