Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Soul of Modern Poetry
The book is founded upon lectures on twentieth-century Poets and Poetry, de livered to a general audience in Edinburgh. In the interpretation of George Meredith's poetry, I am deeply indebted to The Poetry and Philosophy of George Meredith by G. M. Trevelyan. In dealing with the general theory of poetry, I owe much to Professor Bradley's Oxford Lectures on Poetry, and to A New Study of English Poetry by Sir Henry N ewbolt, to whom also I am grateful for his kind permission to reprint in Chapter IV. A paragraph from the book just mentioned.
