Publisher's Synopsis
The Shadows of Gastown is a fictional story based on Jack Deighton, a true character who arrives in Canada to seek a better life and even fortune. He settles in the oldest neighborhood of Vancouver, what is now known as Gastown, where most of the story events take place.
Jack Deighton, a man forged by the relentless tides of the sea and the hard streets of Vancouver, arrived in to this part of town with dreams as vast as the frontier that beckoned him. He built a life here, brick by brick, pint by pint, in a saloon that bore witness to the hopes and heartaches of the weary souls who sought refuge within its walls. The Globe became more than just a place to drink; it became the heart of what is now known as Gastown, pulsing with life and secrets.
But Gastown is a place where the past is never truly buried, where love and loss are etched into the very fabric of the streets. Jack's heart, torn between two worlds, found solace in Suzy, a woman as strong and enduring as the land she now called home. But as the tides of time and fate washed over them, their love would be tested by forces beyond their control-by the very spirits that lingered in the alleys and the woods, waiting for their chance to return.
In the mist-laden streets of Gastown, where cobblestones gleam under the faint glow of gas lamps, the whispers of the past linger in every shadow. It is a place where history and mystery are bound together, where the spirits of the old world intertwine with the lives of those who dare to call it home.
The Shadows of Gastown is a story rich with complex themes that intertwine to create a dark, emotional narrative set against the backdrop of late 19th-century Vancouver.
The story is a haunting tale that weaves various themes into a narrative of love, loss, and the supernatural, creating a powerful exploration of the human condition and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
