Publisher's Synopsis
Everyone remained silent, not knowing if it was acceptable to speak. Even their leader sitting at the head of the table left his wine untouched, his fingers resting like a steeple in front of his mouth. The stoic expression he wore told everyone to remain as they were until signaled to do otherwise.
"No one is to go anywhere alone, regardless of your years in training," he said quietly, breaking the silence. "Until we can track...it...all will keep watch on one another. As it is written, 'the change takes but a moment'. Should you be compromised by our enemy, your life will be forfeit."
A few glances were exchanged between the group, though it did little to surprise any of them. What he said wasn't a threat; it was a reminder of the danger they faced.
It went without saying, if any of them did fall before the enemy--death was preferable to life.
