More people are becoming aware of online scams, particularly those that come through emails and text messages. However, what do we know about scams that occur on social media? Wilma has become aware of scams through her social media account. Individuals posing as international artists reach out to her and attempt to befriend her. As a student criminologist, Wilma discovers that these scammers are specifically targeting vulnerable individuals. As someone with a learning difficulty, particularly dyslexia, she is an easy target. Wilma is actively raising awareness for the adult dyslexic community and how scammers exploit vulnerable people. She aims to highlight misconceptions and stereotypes associated with dyslexia while also addressing the criminal behaviour behind online scams, as well as diving into the criminal behaviour of online scams.
