Publisher's Synopsis
Substantial changes have taken place over the last ten years in the funding and organization of academic science. This ACOST report considers the effect of these changes on science and technology research in universities - a major component of the UK science base. It recommends that a number of measures be taken in order to place future academic research on a sound financial basis. The report further recommends that higher education institutions examine the career structure for academic researchrs in science and technology.
