Publisher's Synopsis

Record of the institutions performed in the archdeaconry of Lincoln by Oliver Sutton, Bishop of Lincoln from 1280 to 1299 Bishop Sutton's ordination-lists, in common with the rest of his register, were kept on rolls for the first ten years of his episcopate. None of these rolls has survived, and the records therefore begin with the Whitsun ordinations of the eleventh year of Sutton's episcopate (which ran from May 19, 1290, to May 18, 1291) and continue until his death on November 13, 1299. The volume, in addition to the institutions, includes memoranda dealing with the administration of the see, together with an account of his life. The text is in Latin with English commentary and interpretation.
