Concurrent planning puts the child's needs at the centre of social work decision making, with the intention of reducing the amount of time spent awaiting permanent placement. Using this approach, a child is placed with a potential family to address the causes of the child's removal. If the child cannot return to the birth family within a determined period, a decision is made to seek an alternative family placement - thus preventing multiple moves, drift and delay in the care system. This study supports the advantages of this approach, demanding a professional attitude shift.
