Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Rise and Progress of the English Commonwealth, Vol. 1 of 2: Anglo-Saxon Period; Containing the Anglo-Saxon Policy, and the Institutions Arising Out of Laws and Usages Which Prevailed Before the Conquest

I must therefore excuse myself by the observation, that an attempt is here made, however imperfectly, to supply a chasm in our historical literature.
