Since the publication of the second volume, our parish has lost an enthusiastic local antiquary, Mr. Simeon Rayner, of Pudsey. He was my personal friend, and took a warm interest in this publication. He had spent a great part of the leisure of his lifetime in collecting materials for a history of his native town; and the work of arrangement was well advanced when Death took him from us last year. But it is a source of satisfaction to know that he made provision for the publication of his Collections. Other workers will do the best they can to carry out his wishes, and we may hope to welcome his History of Pudsey before Whitsuntide.
