Publisher's Synopsis

John Allister Currie (1868-1931) was a Canadian author, journalist and political figure, born in Nottawa, Ontario. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons in 1904, and successfully in 1908 when he represented Simcoe North as a Conservative and then Unionist member. He was a member of the 48th Highlanders of Canada which served in South Africa during the Second Boer War and served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I, being promoted to the rank of colonel in 1915. He wrote "The Red Watch" about his war experiences, which was first published in 1916. He was defeated in his bid for reelection in 1921 and was elected to the provincial assembly in a by-election in 1922. He represented Toronto Southeast and then St. Patrick in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1922 to 1929 as a Conservative.
