Publisher's Synopsis
This book is written not only for medical doctors and psychologists, but also for the public at large. They will thus be aware that they can be influenced by 'pop' psychology books and inexperienced counsellors who call themselves 'therapists'. These therapists might 'implant' erroneous ideas in the patient's mind, which could eventually be very harmful. Unlike useless treatments that merely do patients no good, practitioners of 'Recovered Memory Therapy' may harm patients and cause them (and their families) to suffer. In addition, therapists must also confront the powerful emotions evoked by (alleged) sexual abuse. Many of the therapists using RMT are incapable of or inexperienced in dealing with the patient who is suffering from severe depression or other extreme emotional disorders, with disastrous results.
