The reply of Mr. Peale to the charges preferred by me against him (no. 80 App.) commences with a than ful acknowledgment to Dr. Eckert, for having extended to him the Opportunity of answering. Them. Will he now also feel thankful to that gentleman for having withheld from him the privilege of confronting and examining wit nesses? I presume he will, for it was necessary not to make serious work of it.
