Publisher's Synopsis
This book explores in depth the refugee situation in Africa in its economic, social and psychological perspectives. It seeks to identify the unique problems refugees face while in refuge, how they cope with adversities, and the various support systems placed at their disposal by governments, NGOs and the international community. The trend in adopting 'National Refugee Policies' in countries of asylum, to serve as legal obligations towards refugees, is found to be worth emulating in all African countries receiving refugees. In their content and implementation however, further humanitarian consideration needs to be given to avert continued trauma. The book compares refugee problems in Africa with those in Europe and elsewhere, it looks at legal and physical protection, different forms of assistance and reviews refugee policies across African countries.
