The subject dealt with in the following pages is one which up till now has received very little thoughtful attention from the world at large. Possibly the reason for this is that, until the advent of mechanical transport, the pressure on our roads was not sufficiently great to necessitate any serious effort to relieve it.
Of late, however, the problem has forced itself into the public eye very insistently, and many urban authorities have been forced to make some provision for the increase of traffic that has actually arisen, and which is still more likely to be felt in the future.
