The new Guardian Vivienne has lost her family, her husband and almost her life fighting against the evil Druid Sauk and his rebel forces. To reclaim her kingdom, she makes a deal with the madman - to find the lost Pinnacle Library and its Forbidden Books of Knowledge before her enemies do to win her husband's freedom. Unfortunately, betrayal sits closer to her than previously suspected and the beleaguered queen soon finds herself on the run, in the company of the highly desirable Prince Theirran of the Northern Tribes. While he serves as her Protector, the notorious ladies' man also proves a distraction she cannot evade. Soon, they must fight for their lives across the vast Central Plains with Sauk on their trail. Such close circumstances serve to bring Vivienne and Theirran into a relationship neither expected; and it becomes apparent to all around them their feelings are venturing onto forbidden grounds. The question becomes, will Vivienne find and free Devon before her body succumbs to Theirran's overwhelming presence? In the end, Vivienne must choose her own fate - to stay the puppet Guardian her grandfather prepared for or allow her own free will to carve out a new path into the future for herself and for mankind?
