Excerpt from The Presbyterian Historical Almanac, and Annual Remembrancer of the Church, for 1861, Vol. 3
The almanac is divided into various departments: that of Record, gives the business transacted, free from all super?uous matter, and arranged under appropriate headings.
The department of Benevolence is shown, in the full reports given of the operations of the year, and in many instances of what has been done in times past, with statistics of the most suggestive character, relative to the grace of giving.
The department of Statistics reveals the present state of the Church; the columns are divided in the most comprehensive manner, and a close attention will enable the reader to become thoroughly conversant with all the resources of the Church.
The department of Historical Sketches of churches, where the Au nual sessions were held, are replete with much that is interesting and valuable; and I have in all cases, when writing for information, urged the propriety of placing upon record, such names of members and othee-bearers as will show who in the early struggles of the respective congregations were willing to bear the heat and burden of the day, and also to place upon record a tribute to the memory of such of their elders as are resting from their labors.
