Publisher's Synopsis

The Population Atlas is based on the 1982 census of the People's Republic of China and constitutes the official and definitive cartographic portrayal of one quarter of the world's population. The 1982 census was the third census since the founding of the People's Republic and involved over 5 million people working some 500,000 man-years. Incorporating the results of the census, the Atlas covers population distribution and change, nationalities, sex and age, marriage and fertility, the level of education and occupations. Hong Kong and Taiwan are included in so far as comparable data are available. 80% of the mapping and data processing was done by computer.
