The chitinous lining of the pharynx terminates in a thickened, some what crenulated border, behind which is a circle of soft papillae and dorsally a large, blunt, conical tooth. In the retracted state the tooth lies in somite III, the gizzard in XI - XXVII, the oesophageal loop in XVIII and the caeca in XVII and XVIII.
