Publisher's Synopsis
This text is an accesssible account of the Protestant Reformation for students and people who read history but are not specialists in the field. It contains two essays on the Holy Roman Empire and the Strasbourg and Upper Rhine region, providing more context for the non-specialist. This account is based on original sources and has been brought about by the liberation of pre-modern European history from the idea of nation-state and the recognition of the Reformation as a social movement. It also shows the impact of the Reformation on the political culture and government of the Holy Roman Empire.
